Berberis thunbergii ‘Royal Burgundy’ is an improved form of ‘Crimson Pygmy,’ originally known as ‘Gentry,’ featuring rich burgundy, velvety foliage that holds its color all summer and deepens to a striking reddish-black in fall. Discovered at Leo Gentry’s nursery in Oregon, this hardy, low-maintenance shrub produces small yellow spring flowers followed by bright red berries in fall. Compact and colorful, it reaches about 2 ft tall and 3 ft wide in 10 years.
