'Johnnie's Giant' is a unique hybrid of a Chinese maple, Acer elegantulum, and a Japanese maple. This fast growing green Japanese maple performs exceptionally well, being a selection from lower Alabama by late Harold Johnston, named after his wife Johnnie. 'Johnnie's Giant' may reach 15 ft in 10 years. The secondary growth during the summer can provide a unique color of pink-red. Fall color often starts out with yellow, later being infused with oranges.
