'Aka kawa hime' is a great dwarf selection of coral bark Japanese maple that was introduced by the late Del Louks. "Aka" means deep red, while "kawa hime" means "bark princess". 'Aka kawa hime' may reach 6-8 ft in 15 years. The foliage is a bright green in the spring, turning to a bright yellow in autumn. The bark on 'Aka kawa hime' intensifies during the winter to a bright red that provides interest in the winter garden.
