Acer palmatum 'Aoba jo'
Beautiful Green Dwarf Japanese Maple
Zones 5-8
âAoba joâ is a unique dwarf Japanese maple with tight internodes. Yes, the overall shape is very âMikawa-likeâ. The leaves are less elongated than âMikawa yatsubusaâ, and are rounder. The leaves on âAoba joâ are less uniform, as some leaves are flat while other leaves may cup downward slightly. In the spring, âAoba joâ leafs out as a bronze, turning to bronze red-tipping by mid-spring on a brighter chartreuse leaf. By late spring the leaves mature to a dark green. In the fall, âAoba joâ turns to a bright yellow with orange to red highlights. âAoba joâ may reach 3-4 ft in height and width in 10 years. Give âAoba joâ protection from the hot afternoon sun for best growth.
