'Aka shidare' is a dwarf selection of Japanese maple that holds its color well in full sun. It is a fairly vigorous dwarf reaching 4-5ft in heighy by 4-5ft in width in 10 years. Fall color is a bright crimson red. While Vertree's 4th edition states that 'Tamukeyama' Ā = 'Aka shidare' is also states that 'Tamukeyama' = 'Beni hagoromo' which is completely different in leaf shape and is an upright tree. Yano's Book for Maples clarifies that 'Aka shidare' is not the same as 'Tamukeyama'. At our nursery 'Aka shidare' is much more weeping than 'Tamukeyama'. "Aka" means deep red while "shidare" means weeping.
