'Hoshi kuzu' is a mid sized tree to 8-10 ft in 15 years. The compact habit makes an excellent tree for the landscape. As you get up close, 'Hoshi kuzu' provides additional interest. The leaves are extremely tiny, with a light cream to green variegation on the margins of this tree. Fall color is a bright red.

The name 'Hoshi kuzu' is Japanese for "Stardust". 'Hoshi kuzu' is an introduction by J.D. Vertrees who wrote the 1st and 2nd edition of the book, Japanese maples. 'Hoshi kuzu' was found as a chance seedling off of 'Kamagata' at Maplewood Nursery and introduced in 1987.
