'Kurabu yama’ is a spectacular Japanese maple that is special and deserves a special place in the landscape. The heavily divided green leaves give a nice lively feel throughout the spring and the summer. The green leaves of ‘Kurabu yama’ turn first turn yellow in the fall, later becoming infused with bright oranges and crimson reds. This mixed fall color is consistently beautiful making a statement in the autumn garden. ‘Kurabuyama’ makes an upright Japanese maple reaching 8-10 ft in height by 10-12 ft in width in 10 years. The leaves on this Japanese maple are said to look like little crabs, which is why ‘Kurabu yama’ translates from Japansese to English as “Crab Mountain”.
