âOctopus' is a weeping red laceleaf Japanese maple that has a strong weeping habit, With this heavily cascading habit, it gets its name from looking like red tentacles of an octopus. 'Octopus' was actually a sister seedling to 'Orangeola' and was also introduction from Happy Hollow Nursery in Oregon. 'Octopus' is a darker red throughout the spring and summer, getting a little green to it by late summer in the south. Fall color is a bright fiery red. 'Octopus' may reach 4-5 ft in height by 5-6 ft in width in 10 years.
