Not to be confused with 'Oshu beni', this red Japanese maple selection is quite different. First listed in 1898 by Yokohama Nursery in Japan, 'Oshio beni' translates as "large red tide" which describes this Japanese maple fairly well. This red Japanese maple selection leafs as a bright red changing to orange-red. This orange-red is very unique for the red uprights and makes this selection stand out and contrast well with other Japanese maples. Mid-summer colors can be a green-red. Fall colors range from orange-red to scarlet. 'Oshio beni' can reach 18-20 ft in 30 years.
