'Shiro' is quite an amazing plant. To truly appreciate it, you must watch the amazing changes throughout the seasons. 'Shiro' leafs out in the spring with an orange cast to the green leaves. By summer, a white yellow speckled variegation begins to splotch over the green leaves giving a beautiful, bleached look. There are not many trees like this. This is where 'Shiro' gets its name, which is Japanese for "white". Make sure to grow 'Shiro' in a shaded location to get the best bleached look. Fall color on 'Shiro' is a yellow orange. 'Shiro' may be the same as 'Shiro fu nishiki', but further evaluation needs to be done to study the differences. 'Shiro' may reach 8-10 ft in height in 10 years.
