Acer palmatum 'St. Michael The Archangel' Japanese Maple

ACER PALMATUM 'St. Michael The Archangel'

Rare Dwarf Japanese Maple

Zones 5-9

'St. Michael The Archangel' is the dwarf Japanese maple that is light red in the spring with green veins forming a dense compact habit that we expect will reach 4-5 ft in height and width in 15 years. Fall color on 'St. Michael The Archangel' is a brilliant bright red.

'St. Michael The Archangel' was found as dwarf mutation by our good friend Bob McCaffrey in Cresskill, NJ on a red Japanese maple toward the top of tree. Bob calls what is often called a "witches' broom" a "blessing" or a "gift from God", which I totally agree with. By having this dwarf mutation happen on a plant, we can graft it and have a smaller and often more attractive version of the original Japanese maple. This might just be why he is so blessed in finding so many of these dwarf creations. 'St Michael The Archangel' was named after the angel Michael from the Bible, who is chief angel of the Lord's Army. Thankfully Bob had taken cuttings and propagated this tree as new homeowners decided to remove the tree.

Limited Quantities Available !! As we have over a thousand cultivars of Japanese maples, we often do not have many of each cultivar. We recommend that you buy the Japanese maples you want immediately as we often sell out of certain selections.
