Found as an extremely heat tolerant Japanese maple by Paul Lowe in Alabama, this red holds better than nearly any other Japanese maple even in the deep South. 'Summer Sunset' leafs out as bright red quickly turning to deep maroon for the majority of the summer.
Fall colors on this Japanese maple are bright fiery reds that will remind you of a red sunset in the summer. 'Summer Sunset' forms a great mid-sized upright Japanese maple reaching about 8-10ft in 10 years. In our opinion, this may be one of the best red upright Japanese maple trees.
