Acer palmatum 'Ueno yama' Japanese Maple

Acer palmatum 'Ueno yama'
Rare Ueno yama Japanese Maple Tree

Zones 5-9

If you are wanting to plant a spring interest tree that has an almost flowering effect with its foliage, this is the tree for you. 'Ueno yama' leafs out in the spring as a brilliant orange with red edging. This often gives an overall bright orange appearance when leafing out. This spring color matures to a bright yellow-green, then to a medium green for the summer. Fall color on 'Ueno yama' is a bright orange to red. 'Ueno yama' forms a mid-sized upright tree reaching 8-12 ft in 10 years.

"Ueno" is a park in Tokyo that was built on a hill often referred to as "Ueno yama" or "Ueno Mountain". 'Ueno homare' means "Pride of Ueno", which is essentially a different way of saying the same thing. 'Ueno homare' is the same tree as Ueno yama'. This park has been a place of celebrating Japanese culture, especially through the blossoms of the flowering cherry trees that reside at Shinobazu Pond and the main pathway for the park. Because of the spring blooming appearance described above, it is our best guess this is why this name was chosen. According to Yano's Book for Maples, this maple was first recorded in Shizen to Bonsai.

Limited Quantities Available !! As we have over a thousand cultivars of Japanese maples, we often do not have many of each cultivar. We recommend that you buy the Japanese maples you want immediately as we often sell out of certain selections.
