Acer palmatum 'Yama momiji' Japanese Maple

Acer palmatum

'Yama Momiji'
Great Fall Color Wild Collected Japanese Maple

Zones 5-9

'Yama momiji' is a grafted selection of a wild collected Acer matsumuraeĀ  from Japan. In Japan, Acer matsumurae is called "Yama momiji" which translates as "mountain maple" or "Maple from the Mountains". 'Yama momiji' was collected in the wild by Yutaka Tunaka of Tsukasa Maple as it originally had an unstable yellow variegated sport on it. He was calling it 'Yama momiji kitu'. Unfortunately the variegation didn't pan out for us, but it give us the opportunity to offer you a wild collected Acer matsumurae from Japan. The more divided foliage has bronze overtones in the early spring, maturing to more green. In the fall 'Yama momiji' turns bright yellow to orange. 'Yama momiji' may reach 8-10 ft in height and width in 10 years with an upright and semi-pendulous habit. This is our first time offering a wild collected form of Acer matsumurae. It is quite unlike anything you find in the nursery trade today.Ā

Limited Quantities Available !!Ā As we have over a thousand cultivars of Japanese maples, we often do not have many of each cultivar. We recommend that you buy the Japanese maples you want immediately as we often sell out of certain selections.
