Acer shirasawanum 'Mikado' Japanese Maple

Acer shirasawanum 'Mikado'
Japanese Maple

Zones 5-9

'Mikado' is a newer introduction of Acer shirasawanum that is more than likely a hybrid with Acer palmatum. According to Talon Buchholz, who introduced this selection, 'Mikado' leafs out as a plum red. As the color fades, chartreuse comes in the center of this leaf creating a most pleasing color throughout the hotter part of the year. In autumn, 'Mikado' turns to a bright orange red. 'Mikado' is expected to grow about a foot a year reaching 10 in 10 years.
