The legendary plant explorer, E.H. Wilson, loved Kurume azaleas. He believed they were the loveliest of all the azaleas. E.H. Wilson imported 50 Kurume azalea known as Wilson’s 50 from Oishi Gardens in Japan. ‘Hinodegiri’ was E.H. Wilson’s #42. ‘Hinodegiri’ is a classic purple-red blooming Kurume azalea. The blooms cover the branches, leaving little leaves in sight during bloom in the early spring. ‘Hinodegiri’ may reach 3-4 ft in height and width in 10 years.
