Deciduous Native Azalea
Earl Sommerville Native Azalea

‘Orange Carpet’ is one of those bucket list plants that everyone needs in their garden. Yes, we have a creeping orange blooming native azalea selection. It sounds crazy, because it is. ‘Orange Carpet’ was collected by Earl Sommerville in 1960 at Lake Allatoona. The only reason this plant isn’t out there more is that it is a slow grower. In 10 years, ‘Orange Carpet’ may reach 2 ft in height by 4 ft in width. This means 1 gallons will be smaller than other azaleas we offer. It takes time. Once this plant gets established and starts doing its thing, this is a show stopper in the garden. Make sure to give ‘Orange Carpet’ good drainage and lots of organic matter when planting. ‘Orange Carpet’ is believed to be a hybrid between Rhododendron calendulaceum and Rhododendron flammeum.
