I love Rhododendron arborescens, the native sweet azalea. They typically bloom white. Weston Nurseries developed 'Pink and Sweet' by breeding two native sweet azaleas.  The result was a pink blooming Rhododendron arborescens. This means you get some great color blooms, but also the spicy aroma that you get from the species. 'Pink and Sweet' is a late bloomer for deciduous azaleas, blooming in late spring to mid-summer. The bloom on this hybrid fades yellow before the blooms drop. The foliage on 'Pink and Sweet' is typically a glossy green, giving an added interest spring through fall. 'Pink and Sweet' may reach 6 ft in height by 4 ft in width in 10 years. Maike sure to give 'Pink and Sweet' good drainage and plenty of organic matter when planting.
