Rhododendron prunifolium, known as the plumleaf azalea, is quite special. It is naturally a beautiful deep red and blooms in early to late summer depending on your location. This is great way to extend your bloom season with native azaleas and add great color to your garden. Calloway Gardens uses the the plumleaf azalea to its fullest effect and draws plenty of people to their gardens. You can do the same by adding Rhododendron prunifolium to your garden. Make sure to give plenty of organic matter and good drainage when planting. Rhododendron prunifolium may reach 5-6 ft in height by 4 ft in width in 10 years.
