Cryptomeria ‘Yoshino’ is a faster growing Japanese cedar selection with a narrower pyramidal shape. Due to the ability of Cryptomeria to grow well in the shade, ‘Yoshino’ makes an excellent screen in more shade situations where a ‘Leyland Cypress’ won’t grow. ‘Yoshino’ develops a strong central leader and an excellent shape without pruning. ‘Yoshino’ may reach 12 ft in height by 5 ft in width in 10 years. The lighter green spring foliage, turns darker green for summer and bronze in the winter. ‘Yoshino’ is a classic Japanese selection that was introduced from the Nara region of Japan near Yoshino Trail.
