Fagus sylvatica 'Franken' Variegated European Beech
Fagus sylvatica 'Franken'
RareĀ Marmor StarĀ Variegated European Beech Tree
Zones 4-7
Ā
According to Robert Fincham, 'Franken' was found and introduced by G Donig in Germany as 1 of 2 seedlings from Fagus sylvatica 'Marmorata'. The other seedling was 'Marmor Star'.Ā While 'Franken' and 'Marmor Star' are sister seedlings, 'Franken' may get pink variegation when planted with plenty of sunlight while 'Marmor Star' does not. If planted in the shade, you will typically only get white variegation on 'Franken' as well. Once established it is said that 'Franken' does not show burn on the variegation in most climates.Ā
The first flush of growth is almost completely green on 'Franken'. Don't worry! The second flush of growth is almost completely variegated. This creates a nice contrast and will add a bit of interest during the summer months.
Limited Quantities Available !!Ā As we have over a thousand cultivars of Japanese maples, we often do not have many of each cultivar. We recommend that you buy Japanese maples you want immediately as we often sell out of certain selections.
