'Mount Airy' is a selection of fothergilla that has exceptional vigor and beautiful large white flowers that are honey scented. 'Mount Airy' is a selection that is a profusely prolific flowering selection. Green leaves often emerge after the white flowers. Fall color on 'Mt Airy' may range from orange to red. 'Mount Airy'Ā  was found by Dr. Michael Dirr as a chance seedling at Mount Airy Arboretum in Cincinnati, Ohio. 'Mount Airy' may reach 5 ft tall by 5 ft wide. 'Mount Airy' is believed to be a cross between Fothergilla major and Fothergilla gardenii, although we believe it may actually be an amazing form of Fothergilla major.
