'Miyama yae murasaki’ is a beautiful selection of lacecap Japanese mountain hydrangea. It is an earlier bloomer than many of the Hydrangea serrata selections. This lacecap bloom displays double florets which add to the uniqueness of these larger blooms. The pH of the soil can dramatically affect the bloom color. Soils that are more alkaline will cause ‘Miyama yae murasaki’ to display more pink color. Acidic soils will cause ‘Miyama yae murasaki’ to display more blue to purple color. ‘Miyama’ translates as “beautiful mountains”. ‘Yae murasaki’ refers to the double flower and purple color. ‘Miyama-yae-murasaki’ may reach 4 ft in height and width in 10 years.
