Ilex x 'Solar Flare' is a newer sport that was found on Ilex x 'Oakleaf' by Joan Currier of The Unique Plant, Chapel Hill, NC. The dark green foliage is has bright yellow margins. Up close the variegation is striking, while from a distance this holly appears like a bright yellow beacon in the landscape. 'Solar Flare' may reach 5-6 ft in height in 10 years.
