Pinus contorta 'Chief Joseph' is a dazzling, upright evergreen conifer that is famous for its shocking winter-golden foliage. During summer, its needles turn yellow-green. It was discovered in the Wallow Mountains in Oregon by Doug Will. This plant prefers sun/partial shade and well-drained soil. It can grow up to 4 ft tall and 2 ft wide in 10 years. It is hardy to -30 degrees and is suitable for USDA zone 4.
