Pinus thunbergii 'Oculus Draconis' isa variegated selection of Japanese black pine. The golden yellow variegated eye is very close the base of each needle. The variegation is quite attractive on this Japanese black pine. 'Oculus draconis' may grow 8-10 inches of growth in a year, reaching 6-8 ft in 10 years in south. Reports of faster growth rate typically in the Northwest and Northeast. The name 'Oculus draconis' translates as "Dragon's Eye", although some believe 'Janome' to be the correct nomenclature, this tree is more popular in the nursery trade under the name 'Oculus draconis'.
