Rhododendron prinophyllum, often called the Early Azalea, is an earlier blooming pink blooming azalea. The pink blooms can start as early as late April to early May, which is extremely early for native azaleas. Rhododendron prinophyllum may reach 5 ft in height by 4 ft in width in 10 years. Rhododendron prinophyllum is rare in cultivation, and uncommon in the wild. This Early Azalea can be found in damp thickets with acidic soil throughout its range. Good drainage and high organic matter is required to grow Rhododendron prinophyllum.Â
