'Sapporo' is a mid-to-late spring blooming rhododendron that has clusters of white blooms tinged with orchid lavender and deep purple-red blotch. The crisp color contrast of the blooms is quite nice contrasting with the dark green foliage. The blooms even carry a light fragrance. 'Sapporo' may reach 5 ft in height and width in 10 years. Rhododendron 'Sapporo' is a newer selection from Hachmann Nursery, Germany that has recently made its way to the United States. 'Sapporo' is noted to be more sun tolerant than the similar selection 'Sappho', making it a better quality plant to be used in the landscape and garden.
