'Lionheart' is a superb red laceleaf selection of Japanese maple. 'Lionheart' leafs out in the spring as a pink-red to bright red turning maroon for a big part of year. During late summer, 'Lionheart' may turn to shades of bronze, before turning orange to crimson red in the fall. The most unique thing about 'Lionheart' is its habit, often reaching upward at early age, growing with a bit of vigor. As 'Lionheart' begins to age it does begin weep. This habit creates a layering effect with quite a bit of arching. 'Lionheart' may reach 8-10 ft in height and width in 15 years.Ā
