Hakonechloa macra 'Aureola', commonly known as Golden Japanese Forest Grass, features a graceful, arching habit that forms neat mounds, making it a striking addition to gardens. The bright yellow leaves, adorned with narrow green stripes, give the plant a vibrant, golden appearance. In cooler temperatures, the foliage may develop a reddish or pinkish tint. It typically grows to about 1-1.5 ft in height and spreads to about 1.5-2 ft in width. Often used as a ground cover, in borders, along pathways, or in containers, its vibrant color and texture make it an excellent choice for adding contrast and interest to shady areas. This low-maintenance plant requires occasional trimming of old foliage in early spring to make way for new growth.
