Acer buergerianum 'Miyasama yatsubusa' Dwarf Trident Maple

Acer buergerianum

'Miyasama yatsubusa'

Dwarf Trident Maple

Zones 5-9

This 'Miyasama yatsubusa' dwarf trident leafs out with salmon to deep red foliage fading to green by mid-summer. The small, rounded leaves show this yatsubusa trident is actually the subspecies Acer buergerianum ssp. formosanum. It has a tight dense habit, almost 'Mikawa yatsubusa-like' in its tightly layered shingle-like appearance.

The secondary flush of growth returns to the salmon to deep red but this time the leaves are smaller. 'Miyasama yatsubusa' turns to bright golden yellows infused with oranges. This fall color display on 'Miyasama yatsubusa' is prolonged compared to most Japanese maples, providing a display that lasts typically 2 weeks longer than most Japanese maples.

In 15 years, this dwarf trident may reach 5-6 ft in height. The name 'Miyasama' translates as "Prince" and 'yatsubusa' translates as dwarf because of the presence this small maple can make in the landscape. Because of this miniature compact habit, the beauty of 'Miyasama yatsubusa', the smaller second flush of leaves, and its indeterminate growth rate, this maple is ideal for bonsai. 'Miyasama yatsubusa’ is a unique and hardy trident maple that also fits well in most landscapes bringing a beauty that is sure to grab your attention.

Limited Quantities Available !! As we have over a thousand cultivars of Japanese maples, we often do not have many of each cultivar. We recommend that you buy the Japanese maples you want immediately as we often sell out of certain selections.
