Hydrangea macrophylla
'Dooley'
Purple Flowering Hydrangea
Zones 6-9
Partial Sun to Full Sun
Hydrangea ‘Dooley’ is a vigorous, mounding deciduous shrub that delights with lacecap blooms twice each summer, flowering on both old and new wood. Its rich, dark green, serrated leaves remain attractive throughout the season, while the flowers change color based on soil pH—turning blue in acidic soils, purple in neutral, and pink in alkaline. A favorite of butterflies, this hydrangea thrives in partial sun with moist, well-drained, nutrient-rich soil and grows to 4–6 ft tall and wide over 10 years.
Named in honor of Vince Dooley, legendary University of Georgia football coach, its pale flowers add charm and nostalgia to any garden.
